Christmas Time - 2007

We have had an amazing beginning to our ministry; the open welcome we have received has been both moving and humbling. You all, in many different ways, have made room for us amongst you, and Torrington has truly become home for us. This has given me much to reflect on and consider especially thinking of the Christmas story. In Luke's gospel chapter 2 there is a short line which comes at the end of verse 7 'there was no room for them to stay in the inn.' This was to be a recurring theme in the life of Jesus. 'no room'. The question for you and me that begs to be answered is, 'Is there room today for Jesus this Christmas in our lives?' A characteristic of Christmas which has become readily accepted by us all is the giving of gifts. Yet, is that the end of the matter? Truly, the gift of God of his Son to the world, is worthy of celebration. For Jesus made a restored relationship between God and the world to be possible. Therefore, if we truly make room for Jesus, then renewing relationships between ourselves and others should become our goal. The reality is that this often is difficult for us to achieve, and for many different reasons it should remain our goal and become a regular feature in our prayers. Another important aspect to forgiveness is that, unless we are willing to forgive ourselves, we will find it difficult to forgive others. Let's not forget that Christmas teaches us that it was God that made the first move towards us to enable us to receive his forgiveness. Therefore, are we ready to make the first move this Christmas?

May you all have a truly blessed Christmas.

Graham and Meg.
